Strong people come from hard battles

My amazing friend and Zeta sister, Erin Pollard, truly inspires me. This weekend was our Semi-Formal and Erin chose to accept the honor of bringing Mr. Garett Parrish. Now I know you're probably wondering what is so great about this, it just sounds like a normal date, but Garett is no ordinary date, he is an extraordinary one. Recently Garett and Erin, long time friends, were out of school for a snow day. Garett was involved in a tragic accident stripping him of a simple and normal life. Now Garett is paralyzed and has experienced much hardship with all that has flooded his life. Garett, an athletic fun loving teen, has not lost his spirit. He is still one incredible human being, bringing laughter and light to any room he is in.

I wanted to write about these two incredible people after Erin posted the most inspiring comment on her Instagram photo.

"The world is in desperate need of more Garetts. While most of us are probably stressing over the most petty things like what to wear, homework, or relationship problems, for the past 9 months Garett has much bigger battles to wake up to, but he wakes up with a smile on his face and goes at it and gives 110%. What a different place this world would be if we all had his attitude and determination."

Garett's story is truly inspiring. Always remember that no matter what struggles face you or how hard the fight is going to be wake up everyday and give your all. Everyone has a Garett in them, find your Garett and do that every single day you walk this earth. Thank you Garett for being you!

"We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future." -Steve Maraboli
